Planning a trip to the Rannoch Moor area for Feb 2020

Planning a trip to the Rannoch Moor area for Feb 2020

I’ve been wanting to spend some time with the camera up in the highlands of Scotland for a while now. Not being a car driver means I have to rely on public transport so it’s not a cheap or an easy trip but with the stunning scenery in that area it’s a worthy one! I’m looking at going some time in February 2020.

Moving house, time for some new prints!

My wife and I are in the process of purchasing a new house. Our offer has been accepted, the mortgage is in place, we’re just waiting for the solicitors to do their stuff and then we’re moving. So that’s left me in charge of sorting some new framed and canvas prints for the new house.

Lightening the load for landscape trips

Lightening the load for landscape trips

When I travel to some locations for the landscape shots I take, it often involves hiking in and out and camping out at or near the shoot location. With this in mind weight is a serious issue, having to carry camping gear plus my camera gear means it can soon become very hard work. So I’ve been tinkering with my summer camping load out, trying to get it to a more manageable weight.

New (almost) Camera , gone full frame!

New (almost) Camera , gone full frame!

I’ve been shooting on a crop frame sensor camera for a good while now, this was down to the fact that most full frame cameras were out of my reach financially. That was until recently when I decided to part exchange my Nikon D7100 body and my crop sensor only lenses for a D800, a 36.3 megapixel full frame body. I’ve got some shoots planned to put the new camera through its paces.

Wild Camp & Photo Shoot on Kinder Scout

Wild Camp & Photo Shoot on Kinder Scout

Work has been pretty hectic for me lately, we’ve also had some family stuff to sort too. That’s meant that I’ve not had much time spare to get out on another wild camp. I did plan a couple but they fell through at the last minute. I’ve finally managed to clear a couple of days though, so I’m off to the Peak District tomorrow for a 1 night wild camp on Kinder Scout. Happy days!!

New ND Filters for landscape photography

New ND Filters for landscape photography

I’m steadily adding to my kit list and as anyone who’s into photography will know, that is hardly ever cheap! One thing I wanted to add pretty quickly was some gradual ND filters. I’ve got a cheap and cheerful set but they don’t come without problems, so I’m upgrading.

Photo Shoot at Padley Gorge

I visited Padley Gorge a while back, but I was on a hike with my eldest daughter so it was a brief through visit. I loved it, with the old and twisted oak trees and Burbage Brook offering some great opportunities for water shots. So I’m heading back out there this weekend.

New Camera Bag, Hike on Mam Tor

I bought a new camera bag a couple of weeks ago, the old one I was using was falling apart and it wasn’t big enough for my load out. I spent ages trying to decide which bag to go for, I ended up getting the Lowepro ProTactic 450 AW. I’m off on a walk in the Peak District on Sunday so I’ll get to try it out.
